Dr. Juner M. Colina-Biscotto, MD
Dr. Colina-Biscotto received her medical degree from the Central University of Venezuela School of Medicine. She was awarded the Fundayacucho National Excellence Scholarship for her academic performance. She was then accepted into the most prestigious ophthalmology training program in Venezuela at the Hospital J. A. Risquez. She graduated from J. A. Risquez with honors and went on to win an international fellowship at the Association to Prevent Blindness in Mexico (APEC), at Luis Sanchez Bulnes Hospital in Mexico City.
The APEC program is recognized as one of the top training experiences for vitreo-retinal diseases in the world. Here, she worked under the guidance of Hugo Quiroz-Mercado, a world-renowned retinal surgeon. In his words, “She is simply the best retinal surgeon of the thousands of retinal surgeons I have ever trained.”
Dr. Colina Biscotto also worked for two years in retina research at New England Retina Associates. She worked closely with all of the ophthalmologists, learning additional techniques, assisting surgery, and serving patients with exceptional care. She has also done extensive work on the treatment of ocular melanoma and other tumors.
In order to meet the American Board of Ophthalmology requirements, Dr. Colina-Biscotto completed a second surgical internship at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., and an ophthalmology residency program at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, where she served as chief resident.
Following her residency training, Dr. Colina-Biscotto sought more advanced training in retina surgery at El Salvador Hospital in Chile. This is a world-renowned tertiary hospital that serves only the most difficult vitreo-retinal surgical cases in South America.
Currently, Dr. Colina-Biscotto is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Yale School of Medicine. She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and has lectured at multiple international meetings. She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialist (ASRS) and the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Colina-Biscotto is fluent in English and Spanish. She is currently accepting patients in our Waterford, Norwich and Guilford offices.
